DUDDON PARISH COUNCIL

Minutes of the Meeting held on Thursday, 25 January 2001 in the
Rankin Room, Victory Hall, Broughton-in-Furness

Present

Minutes

RESOLVED that the Chairman sign, as a correct record, the minutes of the meeting of the Council held on 21 December 2000.

Matters Arising

Cllr J Barker raised the point that at the September meeting Richard Weeks had stated that the Council would definitely not be asked for further money towards Phase 2 of the Victory Hall refurbishment scheme, and that this had not been minuted at the time. Clerk was asked to contact the Management Committee for a statement of the latest financial position.

Regarding the tidying up of part of the DPC land at Woodland (116/00), Cllr Curwen had contacted SLDC and had the matter in hand.

Adjournment of Meeting for Public Discussion

PC Howson told the meeting of recent crimes in the area, including a car tampered with in Church Street, 2 poachers caught on the Duddon and 4 arrests made after cars were damaged outside the Kings Head. He made the meeting aware of the initiative to get local residents to pass information to the police using the Crimestoppers telephone number 0800 555111.

After considering the correspondence it was decided to take the following action:

01/6 Clerk to reply to Design Services ask for a site meeting to discuss the proposed bollards in Princes Street, and to ask that the pavement be made narrower from the Black Cock to Barclays bank to allow unloading.

Financial Matters

RESOLVED to pay the following from main account:

NORWEB Street Lighting (direct debit) £34.97

M Dearden Postage, Telephone, SLCC subscription £72.75

H J Barker Street Light Repair £43.20

Victory Hall MC Room Hire 12/99 to 12/00 £79.75

Cllr Barker suggested that a quote be obtained from Millness for the maintenance of street lighting, all agreed.

Councillors’ Reports

After hearing reports from Councillors, the following actions were requested:

Subsidence on road between High Cross and West Park and lack of cleansing in the square to be reported by Highwayman.

Clerk to write to Design Services regarding the statement in their letter of 13 September that potholes and road damage would be temporarily repaired with 24 hours, whereas in fact it has taken weeks.

Clerk to make notice to warn that owners of dogs fouling the streets would be reported.

Mr Don Macrea to be asked to undertake the repairs to the bus shelter roof.

Clerk to write to thank David Roe for providing new Christmas tree lights, Manor Arms for providing electricity and Mark Corkill for helping to collect the tree.

Clerk to report to Mr John Bell at County Hall that most road signposts in and around Broughton need to be cleaned or repaired.

Land at Foxfield

Cllr Curwen to contact the Senior Solicitor at SLDC to see if he can send a letter to Mr Atkinson regarding the fencing off of Parish land; if this proves to be impossible or slow, then contact to be made with a local solicitor to carry out the same.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 9.45 pm and the next meeting set for 22 February 2001.
