DUDDON PARISH COUNCIL

Minutes of the Meeting held on Thursday, 20 December 2001 in the
Rankin Room, Victory Hall, Broughton-in-Furness

Present

Minutes

A minor amendment was made tot the minutes. RESOLVED that the Chairman sign, as a correct record, the minutes of the meeting of the Council held on 22 November 2001.

Matters Arising

Regarding the problem of the siting of the bottle bank, Cllr Curwen said that changes were taking place at the proposed site in Foxfield, and that he was still looking into the possible resiting.

Adjournment of Meeting for Public Discussion

The recent bad accident in the Square was discussed, concern being voiced that the route through the square was confusing and could lead to more problems. It was decided to write to Inspector Mather of the Traffic Division to invite him to come to the next meeting to discuss the problems.

Concern was expressed at the lack of street lighting at the bottom of the Square and in Market Street.

After considering the correspondence it was decided to take the following action:

355 Cllr Barker had asked the District Valuer to estimate the value of the piece of Parish land near Kitscar Cottage. Clerk to write a letter of confirmation to the DV. RESOLVED unanimously to sell the piece of land to the new owner at a price to be determined by the financial working group.

Planning Applications

7/01/5634 St. Mary Magdalene Church 4 lamp posts along Church Walk approved

7/01/5627 Mountain Centre conversion of part of shop into dwelling approved

7/98/5229 Broughton Moor Quarry revised scheme of working approved

The Church application was approved subject to the lamp posts being sited on the opposite side to the hedge to allow for cutting.

Financial Matters

RESOLVED to pay the following from main account:

TXU Energi lighting invoice for November £31.64

Duddon Valley TV grant £100.00

VH Management Committee room rent £88.25

Society of LC Clerks annual subscription £40.00

BT telephone bill per VH (funds received) £100.28

Duddon Fire Protection fire ext service per VH (funds received) 39.28

After a discussion about various problems with Barclays Bank, it was unanimously RESOLVED to transfer the main bank accounts to the Cooperative Community account, which operates a proper telephone and postal banking service with a better rate of interest and allows deposits to made at the Post Office. Clerk to arrange for the application to be made.

Any Other Business

After reports from each Councillor, the following actions were requested:

Clerk to contact Inspector Mathers to complain about the unreasonable holding up of traffic near Duddon Bridge due to a railway carriage on a low loader.

Cllr Curwen to contact Capita regarding blocked drains near Lane End Farm and in the Square.

Clerk to write to Two Castles Housing Association to ask that briars encroaching on to pavement are trimmed back.

Clerk to write to First North Western train company to complain that some trains are not stopping as planned at Foxfield.

The Clerk described the development of the Parish Plan and the forthcoming questionnaires to be sent to local business, interest groups and householders. Also, the Clerk had arranged a meeting with CG Thompson & Wilson solicitors in Kendal to discuss the dispute with Mr T Atkinson over his annexation of some Parish land in Foxfield.

Date of Next Meeting

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 9.15 pm and the next meeting set for 24th January 2002.
